In most cases, the requirements for individual B.Sc programs specified in this schedule include these requirements explicitly or implicitly. Institute of Biochemistry (Faculty of Natural Sciences) 613-520-2478 carleton.ca/biochem The science of biochemistry seeks to understand the functioning of organisms by studying enzymatic reactions, gene regulation mechanisms, chemical signaling pathways and cell structure at the molecular level. Biochemists study how animals, plants, and bacteria use energy to grow, compete with other organisms, and reproduce. Many of the biochemist`s discoveries are directly relevant to humanity – they help us understand and treat diseases, improve food production, and find new techniques to make valuable products such as vitamins and antibiotics. When a student applies to a program of study with a cooperative high school option, their academic grades are reviewed two semesters to one year before their first semester of work to ensure they meet the academic requirements after their first or second year of study. When the assessment takes place depends on the program of study. Students will automatically receive an admission decision through their Carleton email account. Students who did not apply for a co-op program at the time of their application to Carleton can apply for college after starting their university studies. Information on applications and deadlines can be found under carleton.ca/co-op. Students can only withdraw from the co-op option of their program of study for one semester of study.
Students at work can only withdraw from the work period or cooperation option once they have met the requirements of the work semester. Note: Not all of the courses listed are offered in any given year. For an up-to-date list of course offers for the current session and to determine the duration of the offer, consult the schedule under central.carleton.ca. Applications to declare or modify programs under the B.Sc diploma must be submitted online through Carleton Central by completing a COPE (Change of Program Elements) application form within the published timelines. Inclusion in a program or program element or option is subject to any enrollment restrictions and/or specific program, program item, or option requirements displayed in the applicable calendar entry. The regulations presented in this section apply to all Bachelor of Science programs. In addition to the requirements presented here, students must comply with university regulations common to all undergraduate students, including the academic pursuit evaluation process (see the Academic Rules section of this calendar). In order to graduate with the co-op designation, students must meet all the requirements of their studies in addition to the requirements of each co-op program (i.e., successful completion of three or four semesters of work).
Students can add a minor, concentration or specialization by completing an online COPE (Change of Program Elements) application form via Carleton Central. Admission to a minor, concentration or specialization generally requires that the student be authorized to continue (EC) and meet the minimum GPA described in section 3.1.9 of the University`s Academic Regulations, as well as subject to the special requirements of the planned minor, concentration or specialization as published in the applicable calendar entry. Carleton`s biochemistry program is based on close collaboration between the departments of biology and chemistry. Biochemistry became a recognized discipline at the beginning of the last century and became a vast subject encompassing several established disciplines. Admission requirements are for 2022-2023 only and are based on Ontario`s secondary education system. Compliance with the minimum conditions of admission only justifies the right to be taken into account. Average approval thresholds can be well above the minimum. See also the General Authorization and Procedure section of this schedule. An overall average of at least 70% is usually required to be considered for admission.
Some programs may also require certain course requirements and prior averages and/or additional admission portfolios. Higher averages are required for admission to study programs where the demand for places by qualified candidates exceeds the number of available places. The overall average required for admission is determined each year on the basis of a program. For more information, see admissions.carleton.ca. Summer Session: Some of the courses listed in this calendar are offered in the summer. The hours and schedule of the summer courses differ considerably from the times indicated in the autumn/winter calendar. To determine the schedule and opening hours of the summer session courses, consult the schedule at central.carleton.ca Note that compliance with the above requirements only establishes eligibility for admission to the program. The current labour market may limit registration for the co-operative option. This section outlines the requirements for programs in the following areas: To be admitted to the co-op program, a student must successfully complete 5.0 credits or more that count towards their degree, meet CGPA`s minimum requirements for the student`s co-op option, and meet all specified course requirements. To view the unique admission and continuation requirements for each co-op option, please refer to the specific programs of study listed in the undergraduate calendar.
