That said, it`s still perfectly legal for California residents to travel to Arizona, Oregon, or Nevada, buy a generator, and bring it back. Used generators are always legal to buy. The ban only applies to “newly manufactured” gas generators. So, even after the ban goes into effect in California, you can still buy a used generator or sell a used generator yourself. On December 9, 2021, the California Air Resources Board announced new rules that will prohibit the sale of gas generators.
