On December 3, 2020, a legal administration specialist assigned to EOIR in Elizabeth, New Jersey, who previously served as a legal assistant with the United States Attorney`s Office for the Eastern District of New York (USAO EDNY) in Brooklyn, New York, was arrested following a criminal complaint accusing her of theft of public funds. Crystal Brown was indicted in the Eastern District of New York. According to the criminal complaint, from January 2019 to July 2019, Brown fraudulently received approximately $11,700 in government-funded unemployment benefits, to which she was not entitled while employed at USAO EDNY. The investigation is being conducted by the Regional Office of the OIG in Boston and the Regional Office of the Office of the Inspector General of the DOL IN NEW YORK.
