Hello. I live in Ridgewood Queens, next door to District 104. A man owns 3 attached garages. He has them full of garbage, etc. But he rents the sidewalk square in front of 3 neighbors. 3/4 car on the sidewalk, 1/4 on the street. Please tell me it`s not legal. This United States on 64th Street between Catalpa and 68th Ave With growing community concern about illegal entry, NYC is trying to curb this harmful practice. A member of the city council wants to play an important role in this fight. Councilman Robert Holden of Queens` 30th District introduced a bill last May requiring NYPD officials to check whether a driveway or curb cut was legally created by the city before issuing a ticket for a car parked in front of it. If your residence is on a state highway, you will need a permit from the NYS Department of Transportation to build or alter a driveway. Our group of homes pays over $100,000 in taxes every year, and we can`t use our entrance, it doesn`t make sense. Has anyone ever encountered this? So far, I`ve tracked a few different addresses that apparently have legal restrictions, but even then, I can`t find a box that points in one direction or the other.
Does anyone know where to look for this information? Hello Thomas. I am afraid they can. NYC has an element of control over your property through zoning laws. I would check them and see if you are allowed to build a driveway in your front yard. Good luck. Sincerely, Larry The Co-Op on the street turns his playground into a parking lot. The parking lot has not yet completed its final permit check and neither it nor the entrance is being used. Sorry city driver, you just can`t take that seemingly open seat that happens to be in front of a private driveway.
It doesn`t matter if you think you won`t be there long or if you don`t think someone will use it. You still risk getting a hefty $95 parking ticket. Even if your car`s front or rear bumper crosses driveway level a bit, you`ll get a ticket. The starting point is to remember that we do not control a public road, not even the public road in front of our entrances. Therefore, we cannot issue permits to park on public roads in front of our entrances. For example, if a nurse`s help parks in front of your driveway, even with your permission, she will receive a parking ticket. Your letter has no effect because you don`t have the legal authority to give him permission to park on a public street Hey Larry, here`s a doozie for you. We own a 2 family home and have a small section bordering between my driveway and the neighbors. This small section is actually also located between the property lines.
It is a residential or public road and the houses are private. If one of the owners parks there, it will be difficult for the other to access its entrance (for example, the car door cannot be opened or you bump into a bumper). My neighbor has never owned a car, so I`ve been parking there for over 0 years. I never had a problem. Now my neighbor rented his driveway to a new neighbor who moved into 2 houses away. He has 2 taxis and feels that he rents the driveway, he is also entitled to full access to this small section of the curb separating the two property lines. I don`t know if both taxis are registered at my neighbor`s address, as he lives 2 houses away. I also fear that by vouching for it myself, I will violate his half of the property line. Can you help me? It looks like the offending house didn`t add illegal sidewalk cutting. The violation appears to be more of a zoning complaint related to the house itself than something related to the entrance.
I live in a row of adjoining condos. Each accommodation has 4 apartments. I have an aisle that is side by side with the aisle of the next unit. The landlord rented the entrance to one of his tenants. They try to squeeze another parking spot by parking/blocking their entrance. The nose of the car sticks to my side of the driveway. You are not allowed to park the driveway, as each unit has 4 apartments, that is, do not block the entrance with more than 2 residential units. If it`s a side-by-side driveway, that makes it a common driveway.
If they can block their side of the aisle, how much tampon do they need so I can get out comfortably. I could still get out, but since the road is narrow, I need a good amount of space to get out safely and not scratch your car. What is parking too close to my side of the driveway? Hello, Dave, A homeowner cannot regulate the roadway in front of his property by putting a series of signs on the fence. As you rightly said, no curb cutting = no legal entry, so a parker wouldn`t block a legal entrance. Hi Larry, I have a neighbor in Brooklyn who used to have private parking, but changed the front of his garage with semi-permanent steel gates on their side of the sidewalk where you could drive into their garage, and they now use that area to store garbage.
